“Want to try the latest technologies over the Internet? This program allows you to testdrive some of the hottest hardware and operating systems available today. Have you ever wanted to try out HP’s exciting 64-bit Integrity, Alpha, and PA-RISC technology? Get time on SMP x86 and Opteron ProLiant servers? Try out a Blade server. Try different Open Source operating systems.”
This program was available for at least the last 5 years… So where is the news?

I don’t think it ever got covered on OSAlert, so there is a chance a large percentage of our reader sdon’t know about it. Hence, it’s news.
Golden rule of news coverage: What is old to you might be new to others.
yeah, that’s true.
And news might be what was reported on digg.com
a couple of days ago.

If all you are going to do is bitch because Digg had the story first, then why don’t you just stay over at Digg? Is there some unspoken rule that if a news site is not the first to report something, they should refrain from posting it at all? If OSAlert beat Digg to the chase on a story, would you go and bitch on Digg about it? OSAlert might be late sometimes, but they don’t post the same story numerous times, all within a couple of days, like is so incredibly common on Digg.
So yeah, there’s the door. Don’t let it hit you in the ass on the way out.
If HP didnt care to tell you for last 5 years, why should you care? If you have been living under a stone, its your problem. My 2cents : Wake up !!
I remeber hearing about this project a couple years ago, but could not really remember the details so I couldn’t find it again. Thanks, now I’ve found it again!
Sounds interesting. I don’t beleive I heard about it before
May not be “real” news, but OSAlert has some interesting “non-news” items everyone once and a while, and thats good for diversity I guess.
I’ll give the program a look

I was hoping to get some Blade servers send to my home, to play with
thx for the link, still interesting though.
Yeah, sign up to try out Tru64 on Alpha before it is gone and forgotten! Good going HP, you killed a perfectly good OS.
IBM and Intel also similar test drive programs but HP seems to have more systems to test.
I like FreeBSD,but why was it added to the list if damn hp don’t sell servers with it preinstalled.
But i have a lot of important things to do…lol
