Bill Gates is now the favorite target for coronavirus misinformation according to data compiled by the New York Times and Zignal Labs, a company that analyzes media sources. Conspiracy theories conflating Gates with the virus were mentioned 1.2 million times on TV and social media from February to April, 33 percent more often than the 2nd most popular conspiracy theory linking 5G with COVID-19, according to Zignal Labs, peaking at 18,000 mentions a day in April.
It’s cheaper to be an idiot than to be responsible.

There’s a myriad of reasons to not trust him. But he’s been out there talking about it, so it’s not like the worry is baseless.
For a mass media who pushed a Russiagate conspiracy for four years to begin to claim the right is the conspiracy theorists, this I find absolutely hilarious. Trying to couple crazy conspiracy theorists with right wing politics is possibly the most intellectually lazy thing I’ve ever heard!
Why? Most conspiracy theorists and deniers of science and facts, including relgious fanatics, are right wing:
Trump, Erdoghan, Bolsonaro, Putin, Orban, etc. etc. All right wingers that just want to cling to power and help their friends, and deny science and facts.
“All right wingers that just want to cling to power and help their friends, and deny science and facts.”
Saying crap like that makes you just as bad. I am a right wing conservative, a socially conservative consitutionalist if you will, and also a pretty strong skeptic… we should all however recognize that Bill Gates is an opportunist, and will gain power however he can, and use it to push his agenda which if you watch his TED talks is no bueno.
So yes there are a buttload of lies about Gates, but there is also a nasty kernel of truth in there as well…. you can think of the paranoid conservatives like a security dog that yapps it’s head off when a bad guy approaches… don’t ignore them entirely despite how annoying or crazy they can be.
Also by socially conservative I mean as in mind your own dang business and I’ll mind mine, deregulation of marriage, guns and you watch my back and I’ll watch yours mentality. One area that is a sticking point is adoption, I think kids should have a female mother and a male father end of story, reduce regulations on adoptions and it wouldn’t be a problem (My parents were foster parents and the regs are insane). You might get buy with some situation other than that but is is proven the best family is one with a real father and mother figure present.
Yes, because dictating who can and cannot adopt based on personal opinions and beliefs, rather than having the means and desire to raise a child, is the epitome of minding your own business. Where exactly in the US Constitution does it say, “I don’t like it” is equivalent to “You have no right to”?
We Americans love the concept of freedom, but woe betide anyone who actually tries to exercise that freedom. There are tens of millions of people patiently waiting to be told what they should be outraged over this week.
Freedom is not unlimited. Your freedom ends where someone else’s life liberty and pursuit of happiness begins. It’s my personal take that unconventional households DO encroach on that. I personally will exercise my right to vote against politicians that work to tear down the conventional family unit end of story. If you don’t want to have a family you shouldn’t be attempting to change the definition of a family so you can have one.
You don’t like a lot of things about the right-wing, we don’t like things about the left. The difference? You think us having a difference of opinion is equivalent to totalitarianism, while we don’t care if you have a difference of opinion.
As the old saying goes, “the right thinks the left is wrong, the left thinks the right is evil.”
roracle,
There’s a misconception in there, it isn’t that the right is totalitarian, but that the republican party has been hoodwinked by a totalitarian. Let that settle in. I don’t judge anyone over conservative views. Sometimes I find liberal political correctness to be annoying as hell – just get over yourselves already. There needs to be a balance, yet political parties divide communities unnecessarily. Bipartisan politics screws you over if you don’t fall in line with what they want you to think. Politicians take a few extremely divisive headline issues and propagandize it to get people to act as sheep, and make no mistake this happens on both sides of the isle. Trump has embraced this strategy to the extreme, but ultimately it isn’t that new. What is new however is to have a politician who openly disrespects the checks and balances and vindictively lashes out at democratic institutions of government, which is an objective characterization of trump’s administration.
People have different views on a lot of things. That’s ok and even good, but it’s not ok to overlook dictatorial tendencies just because a politician happens to be feeding you the lines that motivate you to vote for them. This is extremely naive and could well lead to erosion of democracy. It’s a tough spot for traditional well-meaning republicans to be in right now, obviously they don’t want to vote for another party and betray their own ideals, Yet voting for their own party is dangerous because of who’s at the helm, his admiration of dictators, and the shift towards authoritarianism. For me the decision not to vote for that would be easy, but then I’m not close to the republican party in the first place. For someone who is though, it sucks that 3rd parties aren’t viable in US elections
You mean the thing 100s of people went to jail for??
Yeah, that actually happened.
Name one. Last I saw, that woah-man on MSNBC got sued for spreading the russiagate lies, and she lost. What a joke.
Carewolf,
It is a lost case, don’t waste your time, it is not worth.
No one went to jail for collusion. Which was the whole thing. Maybe a link to a bank, and one guy who had a timeline wrong when he talked to a Russian official… However, let’s not forget speaking to officials of other nations is not a new thing.
Only 1.2 million times in 2 month?
Including the turdflinging on twitter?
Sound like a slow news-day to me…
Seems to me that when a big event happens, conspiracy theorists assume someone big/powerful must be behind it. They also don’t seem to believe in coincidences.
A few years ago I travelled to Rovaniemi in Finland. I arrived in the evening and headed out to a local bar. It happened to be karaoke night and their karaoke system projected a unique photo for each song with the lyrics over the top. The photo displayed for the Finnish song that was playing when I walked in was that of my home City of York back in England! This was clearly the work of the Illuminati! Or Bill Gates.
People don’t have a lot of trust in billionaires’ supposedly altruistic intentions. My oh my who would have thought.
Bill Gates brought it all on himself. Even if you assume he has the best of intentions (and I think there’s some profiteering in there personally), he doesn’t seem to grasp why people are down right creeped out by his well meaning solutions. The digital tattoo to record if you got the vaccine? It should be pretty obvious why people would label this as the mark of the beast and freak out. Tracking peoples cell phone movements everywhere to monitor virus spread? Sounds reasonable for people at the top of power, but for those of us regular people, we don’t want to be tracked like that! Preventing all social gatherings until a vaccine is developed, and oh by the way, Gates is developing a vaccine…sounds like holding the world hostage until Bill can make some money off everyone.
Then there is the Microsoft patent for a biometric-based cryptocurrency…clearly would be useful for the ultimate social credit system even worse than China’s approach.
You take all those together and he clearly views the common man like farm animals to be tagged and herded around. Even if he has genuine good intentions he’s very out of touch.
People are connecting two unrelated things into some maniacal plot at world domination.
It’s nonsensical.
Newsflash: billionaires already dominate the world. It’s theirs to do as they please, the rest of us just get to play sometimes if we’re lucky. And it’s getting harder and harder.
I’m not a Bill Gates fan but more so because like Apple and I like Linux. But to say the man is the Anti Christ is ridiculous!
We have a president in the White House now who just told people to shoot up cleaning solutions to stop COVID. Who said it was a Democratic hoax, who said it’s Obama’s fault the stock pile was empty (through you had 3 years to refill it) and is about to rush a vaccine through that could be a mess and people are blaming things on Bill Gates?
Give me a break.
The ordeal has started from the countless situations which have been seen and listened repeatedly that people have no choice and they need to take the vaccine. By the way the Tesla guy is also preaching similarly about connecting humans to AI using chips and this is the substrate for 5G heated discussion nowadays. If this is not a good indicator for the path these psychopaths are taking there is nothing more valid proof than that.
Question : which pill are you taking Neo, the blue or the red ?
