Apple has phased out its 15″ PowerBook G4. The PowerPC-based notebook has been removed from the company’s online stores in the UK and the US, Europe and Asia-Pacific, even as the first Intel-based 15″ MacBook Pro machines began to be delivered to buyers.
Hopefully Adobe and the rest will deliver universal binaries soon then…
Sorry they said not until 2007.
Depends what app you are looking for.
Adobe Lightroom Beta 2 is a universal binary. The new Elements 4, for mac will likely be a UB (thus the delay). But CS2 will never be ported. You have to wait for CS3 for that since CS2 cannot (insane amount of effort for no gain best to move on to the next version which will be out sooner then you could do the port kinda of cannot) be ported. Its basically a complete re-write.
In the mean time, check out Lightroom Beta for an idea of what Photoshops future holds.
Fsck!! That really pisses me off! I wanted to get a 15″ PowerBook when I got the cash saved up. Damned Apple.
Get one second hand, prices will be going down as people get rid of theirs to buy macbooks. Plus Apple retailers will no doubt be getting rid of stock at reduced prices.

Hopefully they’ll still be around in a month or so…
In fact, I might wait and get a PowerMac G5 when they’re replaced with whatever apple has upstream. Get a nice NIB dual g5 for ~1500 would be awesome. That would defintely replace my desktop PC (with windows/linux). My Titanium Powerbook G4 just isn’t powerful enough for what I’d like to do.
We shall see though.
poor Apple. I would be very sad if I dropped my laptop.
Right on my foot! Ow, that hurt!
the name of the new laptop is not powermac, it is..
Macbook pro, Macbook pro, Macbook pro
At first I read the title and though “crap… WTF are they doing , they just started shipping the new 15 inch powerbooks.
I dropped a 15″ Powerbook once too…. It sucked. Good thing I had AppleCare!
