“In the software world’s version of survival of the fittest, Red Hat, the champion of the open source Linux operating system, seems to have found itself on the endangered species watch list. But don’t let recent developments fool you. This company isn’t on its way to extinction.”
Anyone that holds redhat stock is not going to be worried unless they didn’t do any research at all before buying. RH stock has went crazily up and down in years past but a few pennies right now one way or another is not the signal of doom or death.
As I said on a forum just earlier today. Redhat will keep on keepin on without fail.
Where were all these people at when redhat stock was around the $3 mark just a few years ago? Or near $150 just a couple years before that? Right now would probably be a good time to BUY redhat stock.
Redhat knows business and the cool thing is that it also knows how to be a community player! Kudos Redhat!
im not a fan of the distro itself really. butas for the ‘OSS as a business’ thing. redhat does a pretty good job of it. im sure they will pull through, keep up the good work and good luck to you, redhat.
They are actually talking about companies, not software. That’s a refreshing change in comparison to the other little pieces we got served here recently.
It seems like this is the most likely as well as logical explanation of why ms/novell did what they did. To attack the shining star. Redhat.
I laugh at these stupid hyperbole news articles saying ‘RedHat missed out’, ‘RedHat is on the extinction list’.
The fact is, RedHat ain’t going ANYWHERE. They’re the only Linux Services Company with RESPECT and a REPUTATION.
While others are busy dealing with money swapping deals with Microsoft, because their business plan seems to have failed abysmally, RedHat is steaming ahead on making better enterprise Linux products, and inroads into the enterprise. Microsoft is scared, so why not try give money to a dying RH competitor?
Without RedHat, Linux wouldn’t have any respect to be honest.
Hell, my manager doesn’t know shit about Linux, but he knows ‘RedHat’ when he hears it. I suspect he isn’t the only manager CTO to be like that
Don’t forget that IBM is also providing a fair number of support services for Linux these days, and they are quite respected in the industry.
