Do some developers just have too much time on their hands or what? I mean, it’s pretty cool and all, but…
Yes, all OSS devels do otherwise there’d be no OSS.
And I mean this, it’s not ment to insult or a sarcasm.
Actually, this saves time.
Problems can be discovered earlier and you dont need to spend time reading log files, the background “music” can go on while you do other more important work.
If this is configured right, probably the gains from it outweight the time taken configuring it. Which can’t be said of most other fancy new software out there.
The hum of fans and air conditioning, the clicking of hard drives and the clacking of keys is enough background noise for me.
I don’t see how the usefulness of this could outweigh the annoyance and distraction.
Now taking bets on how long it takes MS to imitate this incredible demonstration of developer creativity, since MS doesn’t have any.

Sorry but MS app developers are too busy developing apps like Sonar and Cubase
Mine keep playing, “Smoke on the water”, is that a good sign?

The broken chorus of 10,000 IDOL winners screaming in pain from the dark pits of hell?
Does anyone remeber “The User – Symphony for Dot Matrix Printers”? 8086 PCs connectted via ethernet and serial to a NeXT UNIX control server?

And if you like it:
% dd if=/dev/kmem of=/dev/dsp
or
% cat /dev/random > /dev/speaker
This weird thing with some nice filters and mixing over samples could be nice
