“Reading the mainstream media this weekend, you’d believe that Bill Gates announced that Windows 7 will be released to retail in 2009. The only problem is, he didn’t say anything of the sort. What Gates said merely confirmed what we’ve all known all along: that Windows 7 is being developed on a three-year timeframe.”
There’s no news here. This is just a summary of Gates’ comment and common sense. I’m a little suprised why this is considered news.
It’s based on the premise: if a misinterpretation of the quote is news, so must a correction of that misinterpretation.
Also, nothing else seems to have happened today.
Well, Gates’ hasn’t clarified his comments, so I guess this is an interpreted correction to an misinterpretation? :-\
Where reactions to Gate’s off-hand comments are involved, common sense *is* news.
What is news is entirely subjective for a person.
It is much more predictable for a group. The fact that a lot of people would be interested in a certain kind of information makes it news. Well, that’s how I like to look at it.

Seems that Vista may go the way of WindowsME.
So what? Did WinME prevent anyone from purchasing the next Windows version? No, it didn’t. All MS has to do is to release a new version an everyone will buy it. They always do.
Maybe they can release multiple versions and artificially cripple all of them except the most expensive so a lot of people will end up having to buy multiple versions. Ooh ooh, maybe they can make it so the OEM versions are completely non-transferable.
Wait… something about that sounds familiar.

And that’s unfortunate. By the way, can you tell me what OS is on these new computers that people buy?.
Oh yeah, Microsoft Windows!. How silly of me to forget that the Joe User doesn’t have much of a choice. Unless he digs around, which is too bothersome for our friend Joe.
