“Microsoft announced Thursday that the next edition of Microsoft Office for Mac will be released in late 2010. The new edition of the venerable office suite will include Outlook for Mac, a new application that will replace Entourage.” Whilst the new Outlook:Mac will not offer feature parity with the Window version, it will be written in Cocoa and feature tighter integration with OS X including Spotlight. My Take: So it only took Apple integrating Exchange support into OS X for Microsoft to finally ‘fix’ the abomination that is Entourage.

No suprises here.
With exchange support getting better with Evolution, where is Outlook:Linux? _shudder_
I bet if there were an outlook for Linux, MS would add launchers that begin with “gksu” when it gets installed… For those not using Linux, gksu lets you run a program with root powers after you put in your password.
Nah, they’d never get away with that. Microsoft producing any kind of Linux software would be rather hilarious in its own right, but they’d never get away with cheap security bypasses like they can do with their own os. Outlook for Linux… shudder, indeed if that ever happens and that abomination comes to Linux.
I was making one of those jokes that’s supposed to be followed by an awkward, uneasy laugh. Of course, Microsoft making Outlook for Linux would be followed by a hearty belly-laugh in the IT community (I hope). Right up until they try to get this ballot nonsense into Linux distros, that is.
EDIT: Also, just realised (many people have probably though of this before me, though), magic 8 balls really are clever. “Outlook not so good” is the smartest thing they could say

Even though the icons of Mac Office look very much like Hebrew letters, the actual RTL support is zero. Ironic.
Last time I checked, only the Japanese version of Office:mac was able to enter kanji with furigana. Word for Windows even has a nice semi-automatic helper for furigana and that one works under all languages. European Office:mac versions have nospecial CJK features at all.
Well it’s about damn time we heard something about the next version of Office:mac, considering 2008 shit the bed pretty hard. Hope 2010 is better!
This departure from Microsoft makes it clear that the profit margins of Mac:Office is too large for Microsoft to tank.
Not using Entourage now, won’t be using Outlook. My Gmail – Google Calendar – iCal triad works like a charm.
I chose Office over iWork because Office in the end still is better (except for the templates). But it still requires a lot of work to have the quality the Windows Office distributions have, both in usability and design.
because 8 years ago I really really really wanted this, now I’m over it.
LOL, why’s that? Because it lacks half the features that the Windows Office does?
