Most of google’s services already allow you to export your data, but there are a few that don’t.
I am particularly unimpressed by the fact that there is no export or backup feature built-into google sites so that one you get your info in there, it would be a nightmare of manual labor to get it out of it.
So, if this really happens, it is a major step forward for google and other companies ought to be paying attention and commit to doing the same.
Nonetheless, I will hold off on the accolades until google has actually delivered on its promise.
it is still not possible to get the chats out from gmail in a meaningful way. i hope this is on the radar of the liberation front…
and in the standard google way, there is no contact email again.. but they have twitter omg!..
