Recompute has just launched a “green” pc whose chassis is made up entirely of cardboard. No joke. It can be ordered in different configurations, from an Athlon X2 Linux, to an Athlon II Quad Core Windows 7 model. Please note this is not for sensitive viewers. Steve Jobs and other aesthetes are encouraged not to read further.

… people who don’t want their computers to fall apart when they connect the power cord? Should they read further?
You don’t ken the power of cardboard boxes when glued properly.
Imho, they are pretty stylish
Seems like a fire hazard.
There is no Real reason why a computer case should be plastic/metal. We could easily use treated cardboard (thereby being flame and water resistant)
However, I have NO idea why their implementation is so costly… I can only assume there is no production and is manually done
Whilst I agree on the plastic, metal is superior because it dissipates heat really well, conversely cardboard insulates.
Personally, I would like to see more electronic devices with bamboo or wooden cases. It is much more practical than cardboard (especially for portables devices, a cardboard desktop is probably okay though), and it looks really nice too.
See http://gigaom2.files.wordpress.com/2008/04/dell1.jpg for example. I think that looks nicer than a Mac!
Okay, but does it look nicer than this other Apple product?

The cardboard is treated with a non-toxic fire retardent material.
It has an ignition point of a 800 degrees Fahrenheit.

… but fugly!
Yea, fugly is one word for it.
I mean, I’m no “Cardboard Engineer”, but I thought that cardboard technology has advanced some since 1871.
Perhaps other cardboard types aren’t as recyclable, or something.
Seriously, this passes 47 CFR 15 how exactly? Be fun when they’re shut down by the FCC.
Mind you, I say the same thing about the Antec Skeleton.
