“I think most search results would benefit by some form of instant answer. DuckDuckGo has a lot of goodies, but I think we’re only scratching the surface on what can be done there. That’s why today we’re announcing DuckDuckHack: an open source platform to create instant answer plugins for DuckDuckGo. Think of them like add-ons for Firefox.” Pretty cool idea.
Does anybody use DDG as a Google/Bing alternative? Does it work well?
I do.
Its great.
Still use google some times, but after I set DDG as default engine in iceweacel, I use it less and less.
I got google mail and I think google knows enough about me.. Im not going to give them my search history too.
waiting patiently for the DDG Netbook or distro :p
Have been using it for 18+ months now. It’s pretty good especially the ! shortcuts.
Results are not as good as Google but good enough. My main reason is to get rid of Google, I don’t trust them that much, especially after Schmidt’s comments, the recent change in terms of use change and the whole mindset of Google as displayed in cases like wifi scanning to Oracle’s lawsuit. (well I did not trust them 2 years ago even befor all the shenanigans)
Love the https and do not leak feature, don’t like the missing results on blogs and important websites ( dont understand why they miss them ) but as said: they have my vote!
pretty much the default past year or so .Results are pretty good and more importantly relvant searches get top billing. The goog suffers too much from SEO flack
I do. It works pretty well, much better than Bing in my experience, except that it focuses a bit too much on text search (no media search, no advanced search), and that for some relatively obscure topics I have to fallback to Google.
The UI is also very clean and refreshing, kind of like older version of Google.

It actually works ok on normal stuff, sometimes even better as most of the SEO BS is for Google and is not a result in DDG, but Google still indexes more of the internet, so if I want forum stuff or local language ( non English ) stuff I need to !g <> that up.

bing alternative?? Bing is for windows users who dont realize that there exist other browsers than exploder, and dont know how to change search provider..
Microsoft didnt exactly make it easy to switch either..
:p
linux is freedom
to be fair IE asks you if you want to customize your default search engine and other stuff on first start
and the user just presses NEXT, NEXT,NEXT,NEXT,NEXT,NEXT,NEXT,NEXT,NEXT,NEXT,NEXT,NEXT,NEXT,NEXT, FINISH as trained in years of Windows usage, like s/he did to install those complementary toolbars too
What are you talking about?
I use Bing because it works well and I can find what I am looking for (sometimes I search for something about Linux and Java, that’s not belongs to MSFT right?), I use IE because it works well for me. I know how to use the built-in track protection list to block some advertisements.
Stop that trolling. It is not funny anymore. Learn to respect, please.
