Furthermore, the importance to aesthetics is especially depressing. I f’ng worked 70 hours a week as a 14 year old for four months just for a video game system. I worked for six months for a portable cd player. I probably would have done anything legal for a portable device as powerful as they are today. But all you hear is “oh its a black slab… BORING!”. Such spoiled brats we all are.

Well, you know… it’s gotta be sexy, or we just can’t have anything to do with it. I gotta make sure my gadgets come in a certain color, because, hey… that’s how I express my individuality And anything that comes in plastic ought to be outlawed.
Yeah and I used to start the day by loading the paper tape into the reader and loading the bootstrap via the front panel. So? times have changed so get with it Man!
haha, amazing, just like Samsung’s except that curved in the other axis. This is going to be so fun, can’t wait to see people totally confused with these..

I can’t wait until someone produces one with a twist in the middle…but that would quickly be followed by the competitor twisting their’s along the vertical axis…unless of course Apple claims to have already patented that “novel” approach…sigh. I like mine flat because it fits in a shirt pocket better.
“it’s probable that this device will mirror Samsung’s rumored smartphone and will be an artistically bent handset rather than a flexible one.”
I don’t really think I’d have a need for a permanently “curved” device myself, however a flexible one could actually be much more comfortable in a pocket or something like that.
Many of the mobiles out now are not very “mobile”. Where do people put them? Maybe they are never intended to leave one’s hand…
Are they claiming a benefit? It looks like in these photos that it would conform to the face better. Therefore, it might be more ergonomic. But, what other benefits could there be?
I think part of it is about just saying they were early/first. Part of it is testing the waters to see if there is much market for them.
Personally I don’t see myself using a curved phone because my phone sits vertically rather than horizontally in my pocket so it would take up more room.

IF you use it as a phone. 99,9999% of my smartphone usage is not calling.(yes that is less than one hour per year)
I would really love to have a smartphone like this. With the proper display (scratch resistant and at least a bit waterproof) that would be really cool.
First, it would mean for me less stuff in my pocket
Also it would mean that you have actually a useful brandnamehere gear/smartwatch/whatever
I cant imagine any long durability from those but well, stuff is improving over time.
A smartphone you could put at your wrist or roll like papers is obviously the right direction. But until the technology can achieve it, I don’t see how those curved smartphones are a step forward.
The square wheel was not the first step in the right direction while waiting for a round wheel
Now, considering that Samsung and LG had to just show to the world how advanced they are in display technology (because I guess nobody think they actually have a use case for those curved smartphones), I think the LG approach is less-useless than the Samsung approach.
Yes, at 6″ it’s too damn big. Am I the only person (male or female) who still uses pockets and doesn’t carry around a giant purse? Have these companies all forgotten where we tend to put our phones when we’re not looking at them?
You obviously didn’t get the SMS from your network.
you aren’t supposed to be doing anything else with your life that playing with your thing (the phone like thing stupid). Look at many young people today. They heep a vice like grip on their ‘things’ even if they are:-
– Falling down drunk
– Being hit by a car while walking across a street and texting/tweeting/facebooking at the same time
– etc etc etc
As you are not supposed to let it out of your hand even for an instant then why would you ever need somewhere to put it when your hand is a perfect recepticle for it anyway?
Can’t lay it on a table once in a while and type on it, fail. Too big to fit in a pocket, fail. Too big for use as a phone, fail. Those two alone make this one a bigtime no for me. Others’ opinions may differ, go for it.
Our hands naturally sit in a curved position, part of the reason almost all pc-mice are curved, this is good news isn’t it? Less achey hand syndrome when on your phone for a while?

You don’t hold a cellphone length-wise like you do a mouse so that cellphone is curved in the wrong direction for comfort. OOPS!
Btw, if you’re on the phone so long that you hand hurts, use a speakerphone. Or better yet, get off the damn phone and do something productive.
The android phone market seems to be quite similar to the razor blade market… 2 blades, no 3, no 4!. I’ve got 5 blades over here! Well we’ve got 5 blades and an extra curved one for nosehair trimming!
This approach does not seem to be limited to the Android phone market.
Hasn`t Apple jumped on the train for colors other than black or phone with the iPhone 5C?
On the other hand, at the size this thing is (6″), the curve may actually be needed for the microphone to be near the mouth and the speaker to be near the ear of the average-sized user.
“Every phone is a black slab, they’re all looking the same.”
“Is this a joke?”
There is no way to please any in the “tech” crowd, is it? Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.
The first quote sounds like Thom, but who said the second quote?
Bending a black slab along an inconvenient axis is not necessarily the mighty aesthetic innovation your “”tech” crowd” was after.
I dunno,it’s kinda up there with rounded corners in terms of aesthetic innovation.
I think its great a phone to keep in your back pocket if you have a big arse – meets a real need
Oh I dunno, might not survive a big arse sitting on it.

Just imagine how confused people must be already with all the flat phones…
The Nexus S was not a joke either. What’s next, news items about FLAT mobile phones!?
Is this thing actually flexible or just manufactured with a curve?

My old Nexus S was slightly curved, and it was definitely more comfortable to hold to my face than any other phone I’ve had recently.
As for any other benefits, I can’t see why there would be any.

Do you guys know those snap rulers / armbands you could slap around your wrist?

The hostility towards the end of your reply was not needed and ruined your post IMO.
No hostility – you’ve misinterpreted.
