The wait is over. The BlackBerry Classic has now arrived, and it brings the promise of the speed and performance of BlackBerry 10 with the familiar and classic navigation keys you know and love. All that in a package that is ‘designed from the ground up to meet the needs of productive people who appreciate the speed and accuracy that can only be found with a physical QWERTY keyboard’.
It’s a device purposefully built to be reliable, durable, made with high-quality materials, and that delivers on quality and fits neatly in your pocket. From the official announcement of its eventual release back in February at Mobile World Congress 2014 to now, many folks have been waiting for the BlackBerry Classic and now that it’s here, it’s time to take a look and see if it delivers on all those points.
The Classic has officially been released today, and CrackBerry.com has one of the first reviews.
I have missed physical keyboards and it is hard to find a retailer in the area that stocks BBs (with or without keyboards). Chances are I’m going to get one of these Classics if they are carried by any of my region’s phone providers.
I currently use an Android and, while it is a decent mini-computer, it is a poor phone. I miss having a device that is designed to facilitate communication. I think the Classic will fit that role.
No mention of the 449 Dollar / 429 Euro price that this will sell for? Are they hoping that business thinks it is cheap enough and make a whole bunch of money on this device with ancient tech inside?
It’s designed for executives to do work – not for teenagers to play games with.
$449 is 1-2 hours pay for a lawyer, stockbroker or merchant banker. [The target audience.]
I don’t know. I think this is a limited production line for people who really loved the old style phone. They don’t expect to sell that many and are just making them for those really demanding them. They probably have to sell the expensively to cover the limited production line.
But it IS something I have heard old Blackberry users complain about and say they wanted before they would buy a new Blackberry.
The “Classic” is still very modern. The keyboard buttons are tiny. Girl-size. In the heyday of blackberry, the buttons were big enough for anybody to type quickly on. Now they’re smaller than android touchscreen keys, so I’m not sure what the point is.
