We’ve been testing pushing early updates to a small group of opt-in users for update9 and the connectivity hotfix. This went well so we’re going one step further and making each software update available for opt in approximately one week before releasing it. We mainly expect this to be useful for developers and technically minded users who can handle potential problems (eg if you don’t know how to do a backup and a restore then it may not be for you).
Flip a toggle on your Jolla account settings page and you’ll receive each new Sailfish update a week before general release so you can test it out. Needless to say, my switch has been flipped.
Android users can’t get updates AFTER they’ve been released… iOS users get updates WHEN they’re released… And Jolla users get updates BEFORE they’re released!
The dozens of us Jolla mobile owners will be gloating everywhere now!
Blackberry routinely leaks beta’s as well
Sure doesn’t seem like they’d have time to fix any “potential problems” that might crop up before general release in any case.
darknexus,
This adds one whole week of feedback from actual users before the general release. It’s true that it may not be enough time to fix major problems, but it could still be very valuable in determining whether the general release should be delayed until those problems are fixed.
If they had only added the frequencies for 4G in the US. Hopefully Jolla2 will have it. I freaking hate android.
