Google is rolling out new changes to its storage plans that include a new, low-cost storage plan and half off the price of its 2TB storage option, the company announced today. It’s also converting all Google Drive paid storage plans to Google One, perhaps in part because you’ll now have one-tap access to Google’s live customer service.
Google One will get a new $2.99 a month option that gets you 200GB of storage. The 2TB plan, which usually costs $19.99 per month, will now cost $9.99 a month. Finally, the 1TB plan that costs $9.99 a month is getting removed. The other plans for 10, 20, or 30TB won’t see any changes.
This makes Apple’s paltry iCloud offerings look even worse than they already did.
This is literally Google changing their pricing to match Apple’s:

Are we sneering at the fact that Apple doesn’t offer enterprise-scale storage for unmetered lump sums, or is there another country where the prices compare unfavorably?
On almost every OSAlert post Thom interjects some snarky/negative/cynical quip, regardless of whether it’s warranted or not. And in this case, he’s so intent on shitting on someone that he’s complaining about something that’s not even factual.
It makes the site unpleasant to read. The constant negativity from the majority poster just makes me feel worse every time I read a new post. The editorial tone _radiates_ negativity.
If the site wasn’t one of the better sources for news on alternative OSes I’d have bailed a long time ago.
We’re sneering about the fact that Apple only offers a paltry 5GB of free storage.
For free you only get 5GB of encrypted document storage from Apple, or through Google you can get 15GB by allowing them to scan through every document and picture to find out as much about you as they can to target advertisements. I think I will stick with Apple on this one.
Most of iCloud isn’t end-to-end encrypted, only parts like the keychain. Apple can still access the data, similar to google.
In fact if you look at the terms of service for Apple iCloud and Google Drive they’re not that different. Both companies grant themselves full rights to your data. Google may among other things use your data for targeted ads. Apple on the other hand reserves the right to pre-screen and delete your data if they think it’s “obscene, objectionable, or in poor taste.”.

I use both iCloud and Google Drive. I use iCloud because it’s the only service that I can access from work. And it’s on my iPhone that my company provides me. Otherwise I prefer Google Drive. With Google Drive I have much better control over my data, like I can share folders with other users. It also works well with G Suite and my personalized email domain which Apple doesn’t offer.
I can pay more to have Google scan more of my data? No, thanks.
You’re not going to have any choice if you keep buying “High-End” phones and tablets from Google,Apple and other manufactures.
Haven’t you noticed that the more expensive these devices become the more likely they either don’t have external SD Card slots or are in the process of getting rid of them?
Accident? Don’t think so….
Seriously, who really thinks depending on online storage is a good idea to begin with?
Just look at the online joke call ChromeBooks….
