Microsoft plans to reorganize its Windows unit, creating a new division more tightly focused on the development of the core operating system, CNET News.com has learned. Also, Microsoft posted a review of their technology for 2003 and a preview for 2004.
Really, so Gartner say 25% Longhorn wont come out untill 2008 so I guess Microsoft will have to find a way to find keep those who actually wait for it keep busy some how.
Mind you could be a good thing if this delays mean they are actually stopping bloating their software to actually take care of security – if they can that is.
One thing you can’t afford, if you are Microsoft, is to bore people.
Why hasn’t this been done already?
I would of thought this would of happened when they were focusing on security for windows, now they do this while creating a new os. They should of done this from the start.
It reads like it’s all press, but if they are really doing this it will be a big change for Windows. For the first time since…..well ever…Microsoft will be working *hard* on the core of the OS. Does this mean a stable kernel with powerful multitasking? An up to date skinable windower with a GOOD UI.
Not likely. Sounds like press to me. Longhorn has a long way to go if they really want to wait that long to release it. And if they really want to rule out old hardware and force businesses to move to new systems to run it, they may find even less business sales than WinXP saw.
But the home users will eat it up, they always do.
